Sunrise 7:32 AM, sunset 5:32 PM CST, 30 degrees, warming to 56, dew point 30, humidity 89%, wind speed 4 mph (NW) with gust speed of 20 mph. Water temperature 42 warming to 47 degrees.

Deep into the creek, we finally found our crappie playground using red/chartreuse & red/white tubes in about 5-7 feet of murky water...it was like every cast made came back with a tug and wow...before we knew it we had caught about 80 crappie...granted, only about 8 were keepers, but the fun was definitely there!

Hubbard Creek Lake is located on Sandy Creek, Hubbard Creek and Brushy Creek in Stephens County, 51 miles northeast of Abilene and about five miles west of Breckenridge, Texas. Surface area is 14,922 acres, maximum depth 60feet, and was impounded in 1962.

Hubbard Creek Lake has abundant standing timber, brush, boat docks, black willow trees, buttonbush, and aquatic vegetation. Rocky structure and cover are also abundant. Hydrilla was found in the reservoir in 1998 and is primarily located around the Tanglewood Island area, the dam, and in Enco slough.

*In South Louisiana crappie are called Sac-a-lait (sok-a-lay) which comes from the fine eating flesh of the fish, it is French for sack of milk. Crappie are members of the sunfish family.
